Sun And Insanity - Gene Loves Jezebel - Promise (CD, Album)

GENE LOVES JEZEBEL - SHOWER ME WITH BRITTLE PUNCHES. ; Gene Loves Jezebel-Wraps & Gene Loves Jezebel - Psychological Problems Sun And Insanity. Bass, Piano, Backing Vocals – Julianne Regan. Written-By – J. Chater*, Track higher vocal version used on the second and subsequent pressings of the Promise album.

Gene Loves Jezebel would do one more great album, Immigrant, before beginning to move to a more pop direction, at least for a while. The brothers would eventually part ways and each have their own version of the band, but Promise and its corresponding singles and B sides has always remained the highlight of their career, at least for me/5(9).

 · If bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus can be considered the founders of post-punk glam, laying the foundations of what would turn into goth rock, then Gene Loves Jezebel followed closely in their footsteps with the debut, Promise. Careening, wailing guitar is matched by careening, wailing vocals from the two brothers, while forceful, semi-tribal drumming underlay /10(22).

A strictly take-it-or-leave-it affair, the music of Gene Loves Jezebel is just as likely to alienate as it is to enamor (especially the early records). 's Promise, the Welshmens' bizarre, goth-tinged debut, is a wicked indulgence, careening brilliantly between undisguised madness and accidental genius. GLJ achieved absolute perfection on their second album, Immigrant, but Promise is an essential and /5(8).
